Mrs. U:
You are an inspiration to me. As you know, I have focused my vocation on education since returning to Indiana in 1999. Currently, I am working in Educational Services and Employee Development at Clarian Health Partners in Indianapolis. I am also on a path to a Doctorate in Instructional Systems Technology at IU.
Our assignment this week was to describe your most effective teacher or trainer. My thoughts turned immediately to you. You took a young person who was going through more issues in her life than you probably knew about and turned her into someone who loved writing and realized the value of an instructor whose passion was to change lives through education. That two-semester journalism course changed my life and prepared me for the many continual years of education ahead because of your unique and sincere methods of relating to students.

You are an icon in the history of Paoli Community Schools! You have touched the lives of so many people who now are a part of this community, and many other communities. You were always one of those teachers who did receive the respect and admiration of the students and faculty around you and I am proud to have known you. As a student at PHS, I was amazed that you even had time for a shy little country girl who could barely give an oral book report.
Often during the public speaking of my occupation today I remember you, and the many things I have learned from you through the years. As an adult I have grown to admire you and carry an admiration for your many accomplishments. I join the ranks of many in saluting your tremendous impact in the lives of children and adults.

Mrs. "U":
You continue to be an inspiration for my writing career! You were one of the few who ardently supported me as a youngster. I'll never forget the creative writing class you created in my senior year 20 years ago ... I was the only student! Was it your way of locking me in a closet ... literally ... for an hour every morning? Thanks to that early kick in the pants, I've served editorships at two magazines and am now a full-time freelancer.
You are loved and in many thoughts!
